I didn’t learn business from a textbook or a trendy executive programme, first.
My business education started as a teenager during secondary school, spending my afternoons on the shop floor of our family business in a high-footfall shopping mall. That is where I first learned what keeps a local business alive: how to look a customer in the eye, earn their trust, and practically increase footfall through the door. Trust and visibility were key to our jewellery shop’s revenue.
Decades later, I took those early high-street lessons and built my own corporate training company, running it successfully for over 20 years.
I learned how to scale a business, build deep networks and ensure our corporate clients stayed with us for years, eventually transitioning the firm into an educational technology company in 2021.
But throughout this entire journey, I noticed a frustrating pattern.
Whenever I faced a new business hurdle, the market was flooded with coaches, mentors and consultants who loved to chat, give advice and hand over expensive strategic reports. None of them actually rolled up their sleeves to help.
